Meet the Brodsky Lab!
The Brodsky Lab is a part of Pittsburg State University's Biology Department. Our research focus is urban ecology, the study of the interactions between wildlife and the city's habitat, with the goal of conducting research that informs the conservation and management of wildlife in an era of global change.
Dr. Christine Brodsky is an Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at Pittsburg State University. Her research focuses on bird communities in urban greenspaces to determine which plants, landscaping practices, and structure best support native bird species. Her focal research project evaluates the value, management practices, and perception of vacant land in Baltimore, Maryland. Originally from New Jersey, Christine went to college at the University of Massachusetts and obtained her PhD in wildlife ecology at the University of Missouri. She now lives in Joplin with her husband and two cats, and in her spare time likes to experiment with cooking, read novels, and complete her never-ending list of crafting projects. For more information and news, please visit Dr. Brodsky's laboratory website or her Pittsburg State University faculty website.
Katie McMurry is a first-year graduate student at Pittsburg State University. She received her bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State in December of 2016 where she focused on Biology with an emphasis in field and environment. During her time in school, she received recognition both on the Dean’s Honor Roll and the All A Honor Roll. In addition to her studies, she was also nominated for Student Employee of the Year for her work as an animal caretaker at the University’s Nature Reach program. In her spare time, Katie enjoys spending time with her three kids, working in her garden, and bird watching. Her love of the outdoors fostered her interests in this research study and she wants to thank you for your participation in this project.
